The IBIS Hotel Melaka project marks the construction of a distinguished structure, featuring a 4-storey front and a 6-storey rear building on Lot 249, strategically located on Jalan Bendahara in Central Melaka, Malaysia. Initiated on May 8, 2015, and successfully completed on May 1, 2017, the project encompasses a 1.19-acre site, strategically positioned a mere 400 meters from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Melaka within the Heritage Buffer Zone.
Meticulously adhering to stringent guidelines set by local authorities and the Conservation Department, the design of the hotel maintains a seamless and harmonious integration with the surrounding streetscape. Situated within a heritage zone, the architectural concepts reflect the intrinsic values of the location. Originating from a history of colonial-style shophouses on the site, the new building serves as a bridge between the past and present, harmonizing with the historical context in which it is embedded.
The building’s distinguished features include a 4-storey front and a 6-storey back, artfully blending British colonial and Art Deco architectural styles along Jalan Bendahara. Construction methodology embraced a reinforced concrete structure with a conventional system, ensuring durability and structural integrity. The exterior aesthetic is enriched with washed pebbles, not only contributing to visual appeal but also minimizing future maintenance requirements.
Natural materials such as granite, marble, tumble stones, and solid timbers are thoughtfully integrated into both internal and external areas, celebrating the innate beauty of nature. The deliberate fusion of historical and architectural influences creates a façade that resonates authentically with Melaka’s rich heritage.
A 249-room hotel blends modern amenities with a deep respect for the city’s cultural and historical significance—a testament to the project’s commitment to providing an enriching and authentic experience for guests while contributing positively to the heritage of Melaka.
